MATERIALITY AND
ASSEMBLY
Window Display for The Nolitan Hotel
Collaborating with a partner, we have conceptualized a design that harmoniously incorporates three distinct material properties: Porous, Polished, and Matte. This fusion of textures and finishes aims to create a visually dynamic and tactile experience. Here's how we envisage the integration of these properties:
-
Porous:
-
For the porous element, we've chosen a natural stone or a porous ceramic material. This could be featured in specific areas, such as a decorative wall or flooring. The porous nature not only adds texture but also provides an opportunity for creative patterns or artistic expressions.
-
-
Polished:
-
The polished material, in this case, could be sleek and reflective surfaces like polished marble or glossy metallic finishes. These elements will be strategically placed to catch and reflect light, creating points of visual interest. Consider using polished surfaces for furniture pieces, accent features, or even reflective art installations.
-
-
Matte:
-
To balance the shine of polished surfaces, matte materials will be introduced. This could include matte-finished woods or muted matte paints. These materials will provide a soft, understated contrast, contributing to a balanced and sophisticated overall design. Matte surfaces can be incorporated in furniture, wall finishes, or as part of decor elements.
-
Design Application:
-
Porous Feature Wall: A decorative feature wall near the entrance or a focal point in the living area could showcase the porous material, creating a textured and visually engaging backdrop.
-
Polished Accents: Polished surfaces could be incorporated into furniture legs, lighting fixtures, or decorative elements strategically placed throughout the space. These elements will catch and reflect light, adding a touch of luxury and modernity.
-
Matte Finish Furniture: The main furniture pieces, such as a dining table or a coffee table, can feature matte finishes. This not only provides a tactile contrast but also grounds the design with a sense of warmth and sophistication.
By thoughtfully combining these three material properties, the design creates a cohesive yet dynamic space that appeals to both the visual and tactile senses. The interplay of porous, polished, and matte elements ensures a harmonious and visually interesting environment.
